Rye is stunning historical town near the East Sussex coast next to the River Rother and Romney Marsh. Hundreds of years ago, Rye was surrounded by water and formed part of the medieval Cinque Ports.These days, it is better known for its cobbled lanes with cute names such as Mermaid Street and Watchbell Lane which are lined with medieval, half-timbered crooked houses.
In the town, there is a good selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants and every Thursdays from 7:00 am in Rope Walk, there is the local market which is definitely worth a visit to but some local produce - ideal when renting a self catering holiday cottage. For family fun, the local beach is pebbly which is one of reasons why most people head to the sandy beaches and shallow water at Camber Sands just 10 mins away by car.
