Porto Valtravaglia is a pretty town on the middle eastern shores of Lake Maggiore between Laveno and Luino. With around 2500 residents, it is one of the larger resorts on the lake with many excellent cafes, bars and restaurants.
The lakeside promenade is beautiful and gets very busy in the evenings as in all Italian towns, "La Passeggiata" is a ritual! Along the promenade, there are many 17th century buildings including the Church of San Rocco which dates back to 1523 which is well worth visiting.
