Barnstaple cottage holidays Holiday rentals - country and coastal cottages to rent in Barnstaple
Barnstaple sits on the river Taw and is the main town of North Devon. It claims to be the oldest borough in the UK and you can see why when you stroll along Butchers Row and see some impressive old buildings with stone pilasters and overhanging roof and iron supports. The town also has a Victorian Pannier Market which hasn't changed in over 150 years. There is a wide range of stalls selling everything from fresh local produce to arts and crafts and has been voted one of the top ten food markets in Britain.
Barnstaple is also close to some beautiful beaches such as Saunton and Woolacombe which are easily reached from your holiday cottage. Away from the beaches, there are some historical sites with two of its oldest features being a Norman mound and fragments of a Norman castle wall.
