Aix-en-Provence is a stunning town 40km north of Marseille in the Bouches du Rhone department of the Provence region. Classy is most definately the word to describe this town with its grand tree lined boulevards. The Le Cours Mirabeau is a popular boulevard with its fancy cafés and restaurants and there is an incredible array of museums and attractions to visit such as the Musée Granet.
The town is rich in culture and history and is known as the "City of Counts". This is because the Counts of Provence once lived here and as you wander around the town, you will discover several aristocratic buildings as a reminder of the affluent times. Another attraction of renting a cottage in Aix-en-Provence is the relaxing atmosphere created by its many parks and wonderful fountains, there are over 100 dotted around the city.
